Michael Bagley from Michael’s Restaurant has been hosting students under the Work Placement Program since 2006 and has hosted over 70 students.
Students completing placement are in Years 11 or 12 attending Karabar High School, Queanbeyan High School or schools in surrounding areas including Goulburn.
Students learn general kitchen duties including food preparation, knife work, garnishing plates ready for serving, plate up basic meals, cook a meal, assist kitchen hand, and waiter/waitressing duties.
Host Michael Bagley initially joined the program to support friend’s children and have since continued in the program to support the local school community and share industry skills. Over the years it has also proved a great way to recruit staff.

Today three of the chefs working at the restaurant had completed apprenticeships following their work placements.They also have current casual staff members and many past staff members who have all come through the Work Placement Program.
