Become Cybersafe & Secure Online

by Business Advisor Colin Taggart

We are hearing more and more about Cybersecurity for good reasons – it is becoming an increasing threat to businesses globally. So, it is important for you to understand and minimise that risk to your business.

However, don’t be put off by the perceived complexity, technicality or enormity of the task to become Cybersafe and secure online.

Here are a few simple steps which will significantly reduce your exposure:

  • Put in place Two Factor Authentication, also known as 2FA, it is implementing two different steps to verify your identity.
  • Keep your software up to date – check for and install updates regularly.
  • Use a password manager – the free one in Chrome or Edge is an excellent start – you can become more sophisticated later.
  • Do not reuse passwords, especially for banks and crucial accounts.
  • It is now recommended that we use passphrases rather than complex passwords with upper and lower case with special characters.
  • Longer passphrases are better than complex passwords now – aim for 15 characters.
  • Use three random words you can remember.

Here are some official websites which will help you quickly and easily understand the subject:
