15 May Work Placement Team delivering Work Ready Days to Year 11 VET Students Across our Region
By Mindi Smart, Program Lead
NSW High schools and colleges offer a variety of HSC subjects, including Vocational Education and Training (VET) options. As these VET courses directly relate to getting a job, it’s important for senior students to gain some hands-on experience to prepare them for their future careers. Work placement is a mandatory part of most senior courses and is undertaken in a real work environment that aligns with the qualification being studied. It’s an exciting opportunity as it allows students to work with people in the industry that they are learning skills for. In the past, some students have even secured full-time employment with their host employers.
The Enterprise Plus Work Placement team coordinates work placements. In Week 8, they hosted the Work Placement Readiness Induction for Year 11 students at Monaro High School during their timetabled VET lesson. This induction prepared students for their upcoming work placement experience. During the event, they covered the entire process of setting up work placement including registration processes, required paperwork, Workplace Health and Safety, and employer expectations.
Guest speakers from host employers and former Monaro High School students generously gave up their time to talk to students about work placement.
As part of the Work Placements team commitment to preparing students, we are delivering work ready presentations to students across our region. We have been doing this work for more than 20 years. This year we have a brand new presentation that we have acquired through our work with the Youth Futures Network. We love to see students interacting with local businesses throughout this work ready process.
