Shane and Sally Nelson from Gehl Garden Centre and Valerie’s Sunroom are hosts providing work placement opportunities for both Primary Industries – Horticulture and Hospitality.
Gehl Garden Centre students prepare pots for planting, transfer bulbs, help in arranging the plant merchandise for display, water plants, clean and tidy the displays as needed.
Valeries Sunroom Café students serve customer meals, clearing of tables, stocking fridges, replenishing stock, preparing of food/dishes, kitchen hand, cleaning, general kitchen, and front of house duties.
Many students have been offered, with some accepting, employment on a casual basis after completing work placement.
Students from Goulburn High, Mulwaree High and Trinity Catholic School from years 11 & 12 attended a one-week block placement consisting of a minimum 35hrs.
Hosts Shane and Sally Nelson were drawn to the program to support local high school VET students and community, with this also being a terrific opportunity for recruitment when jobs became available. Gehl Garden Centre has been a part of the program for the past 14 years and since opening Valeries Sunroom Café within the Centre the past 2 ½ years.
