03 Dec Supporting Regional Youth Through STEM
Our partnership with Young PCYC and the Fit-For-Life program is a shining example of how education and community can come together to inspire the next generation. Recently, we collaborated to deliver the Young PCYC Solar Car Challenge, providing a hands-on STEM experience for local youth.
During the event, students built and engineered solar-powered cars, exploring concepts like renewable energy and engineering design. This engaging project not only sparked curiosity but also empowered participants to experiment with wiring, energy sources, and wheel configurations.
One memorable moment was watching Chyanne Jackson, a Fit-For-Life participant, learn how solar energy powers a vehicle – skills she found directly relatable to life on her farm. Chyanne’s excitement about machinery has fueled her dreams of pursuing veterinary medicine.
This initiative showcased the importance of inquiry-based learning while fostering collaboration between students, mentors, and community leaders.
Outcomes
- Inspired participants to explore STEM-related skills and careers.
- Fostered creativity and problem-solving through hands-on engineering challenges.
- Strengthened community connections, with support from police officers, school staff, and Enterprise Plus team members.
