Joining the Workforce with Confidence

In a heartwarming success story, Year 11 student Emily has turned her work placement at Nell’s Cafe into an incredible career opportunity. Arranged by Enterprise Plus, Emily undertook her in-industry hours at the cafe in 2024, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her life.

Emily quickly made a positive impression on the cafe’s owners, Paul and Narelle, who praised her for her attentiveness and curiosity. “She asked plenty of questions and really stood out as a go-getter,” they noted. This dedication has paid off, as Emily has secured a trainee position and is completing Certificate III in Hospitality at TAFE Cooma to further develop her skills and career in hospitality.

Reflecting on her journey, Emily admitted to feeling nervous and cautious when she first started at the cafe. However, her experience has transformed her confidence and energy levels. “Things are going really well now,” she said. “It feels like family here.”

Emily’s story is an inspiring example of how work placements can foster personal and professional growth, ultimately leading to meaningful employment in the community. Her enthusiasm and determination not only highlight her potential but also reflect the supportive environment that Nell’s Cafe provides for its staff.

As she balances her education and new job, Emily continues to thrive, proving that young people can achieve their dreams with the right opportunities and support.
