Legal basics for startups

This webinar will explore the main legal issues which need to be contemplated by all startup businesses regardless of industry including:

* Corporate compliance
* Suitable structure
* Contracts and Agreements among founders, shareholders, etc.
* Insurance
* Intellectual Property
* Employment issues.

Learning Objectives
1. Understand the various legal structures which can be used in business and identify some of the pros and cons with each (non-exhaustive)
2. Learn about the various contracts and agreements which should be considered and the need to identify what is important to put in place
3. Understand the various legal rights and obligations that small business owners have and the need to ensure that they are adequately protected.

1. Achieve efficiencies and leverage advantages after selecting the most appropriate legal structure
2. Ability to identify the legal documentation required to put in place that best suits t business model e.g. Shareholder Agreements or Partnership Agreements
3. Understand how to protect your rights to avoid unnecessary legal pitfalls and disputes.

About your presenter – Priscilla Blackadder
Priscilla is a litigation specialist with expertise in complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, intellectual property, media law (defamation and regulatory matters arising under the provisions of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 (Cth), general commercial law, corporate regulatory matters (ASIC, ACCC) and class actions. She holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (Music and Media). She is currently undertaking her Masters of Law in Intellectual Property Law (LLM) at the University of Melbourne – regarded as the most prestigious university in Australia for postgraduate law. Priscilla is admitted in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia, and practices in all superior State Courts in Australia and the Federal Court.
Priscilla has practiced as a barrister for a number of years as well as a solicitor in large national firms and specialist boutique firms.
Priscilla is particularly passionate about brand protection, trademark issues and social media risk management.
